Making folders, Copying / Moving files

Create folders and organize your files
(Note: you can do everything mentioned here inside File.. SaveAs or File Open dialog boxes too.) 

Creating an empty folder

1. From your start menu, open up My Documents

2. Right-click (use the right mouse button) in any white space within the file listing.

3. From the popup menu choose New... Folder

4. An empty 'New Folder' will be created and you can change the name.

 

 

Renaming a folder / file

You can press F2 on any file or folder to change its name but do not change the ".doc" or ".xls" ending (if it's visible) - this indicates what type of file it is.

 

 

Copying files (Method 1 : Single window)

1. From your start menu, open up My Documents and find the files or folders you want to copy.

2. Highlight them using any of the following methods

           a) Hold down the ctrl key and click on all the files you want, then let go.

           b) Click the first file you want, hold down shift and click the last file you want, then let go.

           c) Press Ctl-A.  This highlights ALL files.

           d) "Draw" a box around them with the mouse (weird but true)

3. Right-click on ANY of the highlighed files and choose Copy (or Cut if you wish to move the files)

4. Now 'browse' to the folder you would like to place them.

5. Right-click in any white area and choose paste (or Ctrl-V)

Copying files (Method 2 : Two windows)

1. Open up My Documents and find the source folder.

2. Open up another My Documents and find the target folder.

3. Highlight files as above

3. Right-drag the files from the source window to the target window (drag using the right mouse button)

4. From the popup menu choose Copy or Move as desired.
