(Tech Tip: MacBook Pro) keyboard mapping for Windows

Do you use a Mac for running Windows?  This can be done using Apple’s Boot Camp or using a ‘real’ Windows machine via Remote Desktop.

Either way you will quickly notice that certain keys and the ability right-click are missing!

Summary

To accomplish Do this
right-click Put TWO fingers on the trackpad and click
scroll Drag using TWO fingers on the trackpad
backspace (aka delete left) Use delete key
delete (aka delete right) Use fn-delete key
Windows key Apple key (duh)
Page Up, Page Down Fn-Up Arrow
Home, End Fn-Left Arrow
F1 to F12 Fn-F1 to Fn-F12
right-click drag (as in when you copy a file and want to choose between move and copy) Drag using TWO fingers

Also, if you want to use the Windows F1 to F10 keys without pressing Fn you can adjust the Boot Camp Control Panel as shown here:

  1. Key mapping for Windows XP keys to MacBook keyboard shows that using the “fn” key with “F1-F12″ keys will mimic Windows F1-F12 keys. But this does not work on my MacBook with Windows XP. Toggling the keyboard option via Boot Camp Control Panel did not help either.
I am trying to redirect video output to multiple screens using F8 (the function key in Windows that does that).

  2. Thank you. Much better and easier to find that at Apple’s lame ass support site.

  3. Recently i found your current short article and have already been reading along. We noticed a few odd responses, but typically I simply trust what are the some other rewiewers are usually creating. Experiencing countless wonderfulgreat critiques with this web site, I was thinking which i also needs to connect as well as advise you that I truly loved looking over this submit.
